Food Brings

Food brings everyone to the table. It’s a simple, yet true statement. It’s also the theme for Ag Day 2020. National Ag Day falls on March 24, 2020, and National Ag Week is March 22-28 this year. During this event, we celebrate the agriculture industry and agricultural workers who help provide food for our table.

Food is an essential component for our wellbeing. Food provides nutrients, and the nutrients give us the energy to accomplish our goals. But food is most impactful when we socialize while we eat. According to a study from Oxford University, those who eat with others feel happier and more satisfied with their lives.

Sharing meals with others increases our feelings of belonging and strengthens bonds. People tend to be present and engaged while they eat. If someone is engaged and present, they are more likely to hold a better conversation and give you more of their attention. This is a great way to connect and catch up with loved ones.

Food is also rooted in tradition and memories. Family recipes are often handed down from one generation to the next. Certain foods may be eaten on certain holidays, such as turkey on Thanksgiving. Whether it’s a family recipe or one from a cookbook, cooking with family and friends is great way to make lasting memories.

Trying new foods is another way to make lasting memories. It can be fun to try new things, and you might find something new to eat. We are able to learn about different cultures while getting out of our comfort zones.

This Ag Day, consider sharing a meal, cooking a family recipe, or trying something new.
