Agriculture from around the world

With the world population expected to grow to more than nine billion people within the next 30 years, there’s a regular discussion about how we’re going to feed everyone. Farms are at the forefront of this debate. They work to produce food to feed billions of people around the world. They work together to develop new technology and minimize environmental impacts while developing ways to produce even more food.

Three countries produce the most food: China, the United States, and India. China is the world’s largest producer, consumer, and importer. The United States is the largest exporter and exports food around the globe. India is another large produce, but many of their products are consumed within the country.

While these three countries are the top producers, other products on our tables come from other areas of the world. Asia produces 90% of the world’s total supply of rice. Brazil is a large producer of sugarcane, coffee, soybeans, and corn. Italy exports grapes, olives, and fruits as well as corn and wheat. Australia exports 80% of their wheat, more than 50% of their barley and rice, more than 40% of their beef and grain legumes, more than 30% of their dairy products, and nearly 20% of their fruit.

Farmers all over the world come together to feed the world’s population and bring everyone to the table. So next time you sit down with your friends and family to enjoy a meal, think about all the hard work and travel it may have taken to get there.
