Memorial Day is one of the most popular holidays for cooking outdoors, coming in second after the Fourth of July. 75% of Americans plan to barbecue over Memorial Day weekend, compared to 87% for the Fourth of July, 55% for Father’s Day, and 45% for Mother’s Day. While Memorial Day is often considered the unofficial start of summer, it is also the start of hot dog season. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, 818 hot dogs will be consumed every second, equaling about 7 billion hot dogs total.
