At AgHires, we work with employers and job seekers in the agriculture industry every day, and we know the hiring landscape is constantly evolving. We recently conducted a survey of 1,273 agriculture job seekers and professionals to better understand what today’s candidates are looking for, and how employers can improve their hiring strategies.

Even in the early results, several clear themes have emerged: transparency, culture, reputation, and the overall candidate experience matter more than ever.

Below are some of the most impactful insights we’ve uncovered so far that are shaping how today’s agriculture job seekers evaluate opportunities and make career decisions.

Candidates are Demanding Salary Transparency

One of the most significant takeaways from our survey is the impact of salary visibility.

An overwhelming 82% of job seekers said they are less likely to apply to a job if the posting does not include a salary range.

Candidates want to know upfront whether a role aligns with their expectations before investing time in the application process. Including compensation information doesn’t just boost your number of applicants, it builds trust, sets clear expectations, and helps attract more qualified candidates from the start.

Pay Isn’t Everything

Compensation is only part of the equation when considering a new role. Candidates are also looking closely at the full package.

76% of respondents indicated that they are less likely to apply if a job posting does not mention benefits.

Whether it’s health insurance, retirement plans, housing, or paid time off, job seekers want a clear understanding of what’s being offered before deciding to apply. Employers who highlight the benefits and perks they offer early can stand out in a competitive market.-

Company Culture is a Top Priority for Today’s Candidates

Beyond pay and perks, job seekers are prioritizing the workplace environment and culture more than ever.

92% said that company culture is important to them when considering a new position.

Culture plays a major role in long-term retention, and candidates are actively evaluating whether they’ll feel supported, valued, and aligned with a company’s mission and team dynamics.

Employers should consider how their job postings, online presence, and interview process reflect the culture they want to promote.

Job Seekers Are Researching Employers Before Applying

The application process starts well before a candidate clicks “apply.”

83% of respondents said they are likely to check a company’s social media before applying for a job.

A strong online presence gives candidates insight into what it’s like to work for your ag organization. Social media can serve as a powerful recruitment tool, showcasing your team, values, and day-to-day operations.

Reputation Influences Application Decisions

Today’s candidates are doing their homework. Before they apply, they’re paying close attention to what others say about a company, and it’s influencing their decisions in a big way.

87% of respondents said that a company’s reputation influences their decision to apply.

Word travels fast in the agriculture community, and job seekers want to feel confident they’re applying to an organization that treats employees well and has a positive presence in the industry.

Building and maintaining a strong employer brand is essential for attracting top talent.

The Hiring Experience Can Make or Break an Offer

Lastly, the survey reinforced something employers often underestimate: the lasting impression of the interview and hiring process.

84% said a positive experience during the hiring process impacts their likelihood of accepting a job offer.

Clear and timely communication, respectful interactions, and an efficient process can significantly improve your chances of securing top talent, especially in a tight labor market.

What These Results Mean for Agriculture Employers

These early insights highlight a consistent message from job seekers: Candidates are drawn to employers who are upfront, trustworthy, and committed to creating a positive work experience.

Employers who clearly communicate pay and benefits, invest in their culture, and create a strong candidate experience will be better positioned to attract and retain high-quality talent in the agriculture industry.
