Farm Manager for Kalsec

A little about the business: Kalsec is a global leader in natural food and beverage ingredients, offering innovative solutions for savory foods and brewed beverages. With over 60 years of experience and a portfolio of more than 1,500 high-quality products, we specialize in natural taste and sensory, food protection, colors, and hops applications. As a family-owned business, we are uniquely diversified, owning and managing contract growers who supply specialty crops for processing. Our manufacturing facilities are located in Kalamazoo, MI, and Denver City, TX.

We are hiring a motivated Farm Manager to join our team in Denver City, TX. In this role, you will oversee farm operations, manage contract growers, and optimize the production of key specialty crops, including Chile peppers, paprika, carrots, and rosemary. Your responsibilities will range from operations management to maintaining and developing strong grower relationships. The current farm manager is retiring and will be available to facilitate a seamless knowledge transfer.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • To secure product for KSW processing. To produce a high quality, cost competitive product.
  • Manage and optimize crops in Texas and other regions that can supply KSW. However, the role will be a critical asset to crop development efforts in other regions in the US and abroad, as needed.
  • Manage, develop, and strengthen relationships with Kalsec growers.
  • Work collaboratively and cross functionally in crop production matters. Manage communication for crops in the region.
  • Lead the search and implementation of technologies that will deliver value to Kalsec and Kalsec growers. These technologies include crop and crop monitoring technologies that can be applied regionally and in a global scale.
  • Contract acres with Growers for peppers, paprika, carrots, rosemary, organic crops, and more.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or a related field, or 5+ years of farming and agricultural experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and prior supervisory experience in farming operations.
  • Expertise in crops such as cotton, sorghum, peanuts, Chile peppers, paprika, or vegetables.
  • Familiarity with farm equipment and advanced agricultural technologies.

Food Safety Specialist for Premier Melon

We are looking for a Food Safety Compliance Specialist to join our team in Schoolcraft, Michigan. This is an on-site role with occasional travel to the Southeast region of the United States to meet with auditors at our grower partners. In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining daily logs and managing audit and compliance processes for all facilities. You will implement internal systems for tracking and ensuring efficient processes to meet and exceed audit and compliance standards, including GAP, OSHA, corporate responsibility audits. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, oversee, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards pertaining to our farming operations
  • Develop and implement farm SOPs and practices that meet audit compliance requirements, maximize technology systems and tools for improved tracking efficiency, and enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and execute internal employee training across all locations on compliance-related topics, including regulations, best practices, and ethical conduct.
  • Assist with revisions and update food safety programs and procedures

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in compliance in either agriculture, food processing, or manufacturing
  • Proven ability to develop policies and SOP’s
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% of the year

Controller for Preferred Capital Management

A little about the business:  Preferred Capital Management provides fully outsourced turnkey management of sow facilities in MN, IA and SD. Our clients hire us to manage the sow herds necessary to produce the weaned pigs they need for their pig finishing operations. We manage over 20 entities with various ownership. In addition to the on-site labor and veterinary services, we also handle all the accounting for each entity.

We are hiring a Controller to oversee all accounting functions in our Fairmont, MN office. The controller leads 3 accounting specialists responsible for the bank accounts, A/R and invoicing, A/P and bill payments, and internal monthly financials.

What you will do:
  • Update and oversee daily/weekly transactional accounting tasks: cash management, A/R, A/P
  • Provide clarity and consistent methods of data entry into Acumatica (ERP) to ensure that month-end financials are accurate
  • Perform month-end close for every entity by 15th of following month, using current month-end checklist
  • Update existing monthly forecasts for all operating entities with actual financials
  • Meet with vet liaison for each operating entity to review prior month-end and updated forecast, update assumptions for forecast months
What you will need:
  • Ten+ years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
  • Strong understanding of monthly internal accounting processes
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
  • Experience in managing accounting teams, with focus on documenting and streamlining the accounting processes
  • Exemplary history of financial project management
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field

Lead Farming Equipment Operator for Smith Cattle Co.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist during plant and harvest by operating a variety of farming equipment to maximize annual crop performance and yields.
  • Planter, swather, chopper, baler, harrow, rake, dozer, loader, sprayer, fertilizer spreading.
  • Maintain and repair equipment as necessary.
  • Administer farming chemicals and fertilizers, be familiar with their use and safety controls.
  • Contribute to team effort by creating a work environment that emphasizes teamwork and safety.

Ideal Candidate: 

  • Farming or agriculture background with a minimum of 2 years’ experience operating and maintaining farming and other equipment.
  • Experience welding, plumbing and electrical work/repair.
  • Experience irrigating by sprinkler and surface methods.

Required:

  • Valid Drivers’ License.
  • Able to work in adverse weather.
  • Available for weekends and holidays (rotation).
  • Ability to carry, lift and/or otherwise move items weighing up to 80 pounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate daily details of the operation with all subordinates, peers, and upper management.
  • Monitor product flow and direct adjustments for efficient operation to maximize utilization of raw materials and labor while maintaining quality.
  • Oversee product and material inventory to ensure availability of adequate supplies and materials needed to meet customers’ pack style requirements.
  • Ensure timely shipments that meet the customers’ specifications.
  • Work with the Food Safety Team to ensure that adequate employee training is performed and documented on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Bilingual - Fluent in both English and Spanish (highly preferred).
  • Working knowledge and experience with the fruit packing processes, packing line equipment, productivity software (Microsoft Office, PTI labeling and grading/sorting software) forklift operation, HACCP, GMP, Food Safety procedures and employee safety programs.
